Maryland Woman Who Posed as Nurse Sentenced for Medicaid Fraud

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced the sentencing of Nicole Lynn Vanhorn, 38, of Denton, Maryland, stemming from allegations that she was practicing nursing without a license. On January 22, 2025, Vanhorn pleaded guilty to one count of Medicaid Fraud valued over $1,500 before the Honorable Mark W. Crooks of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Judge Crooks sentenced Vanhorn to five years suspended in favor of five years of probation. The first three years are to be supervised by the Department of Parole and Probation. During this probationary period, Judge Crooks ordered that Vanhorn not practice nursing unless properly licensed, be excluded from caring for the elderly or vulnerable adults, and be excluded from employment with any healthcare agency that received state or federal funding.
