CDC: Changes in Suicide Rates in the United States from 2022 to 2023

In 2023, suicide was the 11th leading cause of death in the United States, with no change in ranking since 2021. At younger ages, suicide has a higher rank as a leading cause of death. Suicide was the second leading cause of death in 2023 for people ages 10–14, 15–24, and 25–44. This report provides final 2023 mortality rates for suicide and shows changes in rates by age group, sex, and state of residency between 2022 and 2023.
