On May 4 the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada and the Justice Department’s Healthcare Fraud Unit on Monday held a Healthcare Fraud Consortium Workshop with law enforcement partners to discuss healthcare fraud trends, emerging schemes, and the tools available to investigate and prosecute these offenses. This workshop follows the Justice Department’s announcement establishing the West Coast Healthcare Fraud Strike Force, a multi-district initiative that includes the District of Nevada, District of Arizona, and Northern District of California. The Strike Force brings together federal prosecutors and law enforcement partners to take a coordinated, data-driven approach to identifying and disrupting healthcare fraud schemes. Under the Criminal Division’s Corporate Enforcement and Voluntary Self-Disclosure Policy, companies that voluntarily self-report misconduct within 120 days of receiving an internal whistleblower report may be eligible for a presumption of declination, provided they meet applicable criteria and report before the Department initiates contact.
