SC AG Announces Arrest Case Manager for Forgery, Medicaid Fraud

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that his office’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit (VAMPF) has arrested Brett John Lerner, 32 years old, of Longs, SC, for Forgery, value less than $10,000 and Medical Assistance Provider Fraud. Lerner was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on October 2, 2025. A VAMPF investigation revealed that between March 25, 2024, and June 27, 2024, Lerner allegedly submitted false payment claims to the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the state’s Medicaid program. As a case manager at the SC Autism Society, Lerner is accused of falsifying case notes and quarterly review plans, claiming services were provided to Medicaid beneficiaries when no such services were rendered.
